Services in North Aurora
We work on yards and driveways across North Aurora, from homes off Lincolnway and State Street near the center of town to the Orchard Estates and Orchard Crossing neighborhoods off Orchard Road. Most homes here are single-family detached houses. That means most of our work is a fence around a back yard, a walk gate beside the house, or a gate across a driveway.
For metal fence installation, we lay out the fence line, set post spacing, dig the post holes, and set posts in concrete. We hang steel, aluminum, or ornamental metal panels and rack or step them to follow grade changes in the yard.
For driveway gate installation, we build single swing, double swing, and sliding gates to the opening width. We set gate posts on concrete footings, place the hinges, and set gate stops and drop rods so the gate closes in the same spot every time.
For pedestrian gate installation, we hang walk-through gates with the clear opening width and swing direction you need. We fit self-closing hinges or gate closers where you want them and align the latch so it catches without a push.
For gate and fence repair, we correct gate sag, replace worn hinges, repair latches, re-weld cracked joints, replace bent pickets, and stabilize loose posts.
For metal gate and fence refinishing, we remove rust and failing coatings, prepare the bare metal, prime it, and apply an exterior topcoat or powder coating.
For custom gate and fence fabrication, we take field measurements, make fabrication drawings, then cut, weld, and fit the frame before it comes to your property.
We also work in Batavia, Montgomery, Oswego, and St. Charles.

How Local Conditions Affect the Work
Every new or replacement fence in North Aurora needs a permit, and the application needs plans showing where the fence goes, what it is made of, its type, and its height. We measure the full run, mark each post and gate location, and give you a layout drawing with those four items on it. What we build matches that drawing.
Fence height is limited to three feet above grade in a front yard and four feet above grade in a corner side yard. That changes post length, panel height, and where a taller back-yard fence has to step down. On a corner lot, we end the taller run at a post and switch to the shorter panel there. Height is measured from grade, so on a sloped yard we check the panel height at every step, not just at the low end.
At a driveway, taller fencing can't block the sight area drivers use to see the street. That decides where we set driveway gate posts and how tall the fence runs on either side. We measure that area before we dig. Where a run passes through it, we keep the fence at 36 inches or lower or set the gate and posts back out of it.
A large share of North Aurora homes were built in the 2010s. Many of those yards still have the fence and gates installed when the house was built. On these lots we check whether the soil around the original posts has settled, whether posts have started to lean, and whether gates have begun to sag or drag. A gate that drags is often a post problem, not a hinge problem.
In subdivisions with an association that sets fence rules, we build the drawing to the style, color, and height you bring us from the association.

How We Do the Work
We start at the property. We walk the fence line and every gate. We check each post for plumb and movement, open each gate through its full swing, and measure ground clearance at the latch end. We note rust, peeling coating, cracked welds, bent pickets, and loose fasteners. Then we explain the repair, fabrication, or installation options that suit the job.
For new work, we take field measurements and draw the gate or panel. We cut the steel or aluminum, weld the joints, and check frame squareness before we hang anything. A gate that is out of square will sag no matter how well it is hung.
On site, we dig post holes to depth, set posts in concrete, and let the concrete cure before we hang a gate on them. We mount hinges on hinge plates, hang the gate, and adjust it until it swings clear of the ground and closes on the stop. We align the latch last, after the gate has settled on its hinges.
For repairs, we find where the movement starts. A leaning post gets reset or replaced. A worn hinge gets replaced. A cracked weld gets ground out and re-welded. If a frame has racked, we straighten or rebuild it rather than shimming the latch to hide it.
For refinishing, we degrease the metal, then remove rust and failing coating by abrasive blasting or mechanical sanding. We check for corrosion that has thinned the metal. We drain water trapped inside tubing and seal open ends. Then we prime bare metal and apply a topcoat that bonds with the primer, and we let the finish cure before the gate goes back into daily use.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit to replace an old fence in North Aurora?
Yes. A permit is required to replace a fence, not only to build a new one. We give you a layout drawing showing the fence location, material, type, and height.
How tall can my front yard fence be?
Three feet above grade in a front yard and four feet above grade in a corner side yard. Near a driveway, fencing in the sight area has to stay at 36 inches or lower. We plan post and panel heights to those limits.
Can you fix my sagging gate instead of replacing it?
Usually, yes. We check the post, the hinges, and the frame. If the post is sound and the frame is square, we replace hinges and realign the gate. If the frame has cracked welds or has racked, we repair or rebuild the frame. We tell you which one we find before we quote.
Can a rusted fence be refinished?
If the rust is on the surface, we blast or sand it off, prime, and topcoat. If corrosion has eaten through pickets or rails, we replace those pieces first and then refinish the run.
What affects the price?
Fence length, gate count and size, material, custom fabrication, post footings, and refinishing all affect the price. Our cost factors guide breaks these down, and our project process guide walks through each step.

Had one section leaning after the storms. They reset the posts and straightened it out. Looks solid again.
